Development of Parallel-CMM


(Coordinate Measuring Machine Using Parallel Mechanism)

We are developing Parallel-CMM as following researches;



3 DOF Parallel-CMM
Using 3 sets of parallel links, 3 DOF (Degrees of Freedom) Parallel-CMM has been developed. An end effector of this mechanism translates of XYZ axes. As an articulating probing system is installed at the end effector, this mechanism can be used as CMM.

Parallel-CMM using magnetic ball joint
Accuracy of ball joints is key technology to develop Parallel-CMM. Therefore, we has developed a magnetic ball joint that consists of a big ball, a magnet and three small balls. We found that the magnetic ball joint has a simple mechanism, multi end effectors and high accuracy.

Calibration of Parallel-CMM
Calibration of Parallel-CMM is very hard task. We evaluate some calibration methods and develop novel calibration methods.
